Honestly, I myself can't believe what happened to us. It is indeed very strange the way Fate works. One day you believe yourself on top of the world, this one and the mortal. The next day, you find yourself in a wasteland of dust and an unblistering yet burning fire. Fate is indeed strange, my friend.
You do still consider me a friend? Of course you don't. Even the mighty Healer of God has his limits, does he not? Do you remember how we were? How we used to stand at the Gates, staring out to Earth? You used to talk for hours on end on how they need our help in healing. I can't say that I disagree. Remember those deals I used to make with you? Those little promises and wagers? I still make them, although these ones are of a different sort and are, of course, with Humanity.
I am helping them, though you may not know it, though they may not know it. Believe me when I say that they will not change with a few acts of purity. No. These people, this race, doesn't buy that with too much affection. They scoff at it, my old friend. Do you know what happens to those that follow the "Light"? They are martyred as mindless radicals bent on the inevitable crumbling of government. No. It takes my kind of help to send a message to these people. You can't lie to me, or yourself, it has worked. Do you remember some of my previous deals? Atilla? Adolf? They may not have done your acts of purity, but they sufficed. None can doubt that this kind learned from their examples, can they?
Why did you do it, my old friend? I had thought us good friends, until that day. You can't imagine my surprise to find you behind Michael that day. Do you know why? You broke your promise. Good friends forever. That was the deal. I guess some things simply cannot be healed after all.
Not that I expect you to see the Way. I will not force you to change, my old friend. I will let you witness for yourself the power of my healing. My way works.
My way always works.
