DAVID walks into a bathroom. [close-up of his right hand, holding a small notebook and a pen] He closes the door and locks it. He then sets the notebook and pen on the tank of the toilet.
VO: (During Above)
Once I started showing symptoms of the infection, I decided to keep a journal of my final moments as a living human.
DAVID turns the sink faucet and rinses off his hand. His hand has a bite on it, and is bleeding. [close-up of the hand]
He grabs the notebook and pen, and sits on the closed toilet seat. He opens the notebook to a blank page, then clicks the pen.
DAVID (VO): {Show David writing in the notebook} February 6th, 2009 It’s been three days since she bit me. Three days since her second death. Three days since I bashed her head in with a baseball bat. [stops writing to wipe away a tear, then looks at the hand with the bite] The bite isn’t infected yet. It just bleeds periodically.
[Slowly ease in to DAVID’S hand. It has bled again] DAVID gets up and goes to the sink again. Before he rinses it off, he writes in the notebook “periodically A LOT.” [Fade to black]
[Fade in] DAVID is laying in the bathtub.
VO:
February 7th, 2009 Everyone is gone now. I told them to go find somewhere else to survive. They left nothing. No food, water, weapons, protection. All I have left is the deadbolt on the front door. [looks at his hand again, it’s green] The bite stopped bleeding, but has turned green. Probably not a good sign. I’m getting kind of hungry. Not for flesh yet. I just haven’t eaten since breakfast yesterday.
DAVID is nodding off. It’s obvious he’s tired. He tries to sleep, but coughs. [shows hand after cough, blood] DAVID writes “I guess coughing up blood isn’t any better.” [fade to black]
[fade in, DAVID is up against the door now] DAVID has sunken in eyes. He slowly reaches for the notebook and opens to a new page.
VO:
Still February 7th, 2009
I have a feeling this will be my last entry. I feel death approaching. Because of the bite, death doesn’t seem so bad. I think that when I come back, I’m going to look for her, see if she’s still “alive”. [DAVID stops and reaches for a photo in his back pocket. It’s a photo of him and a girl.] I just want to find her and tell her I’m—
DAVID’S pencil stops in mid-sentence after “I’m”. It falls to the ground. He clutches his chest and falls to the side, hitting his head of the bathtub. He stops moving. DAVID has died.
DAVID starts to blink, then bleeds out of his mouth. He sits up, and sees the door handle. He tries pulling at it. Then he notices the notebook still in his hand. He throws it at the handle and ends up unlocking the door. He tilts his head and walks out of the room. The journal stay in the doorway.
ONE MONTH LATER
DAVID is outside the home he locked himself inside of. His is more bloody than before. He tilts his head at the open door, and wanders inside. Once inside, something clicks and ZOMBIE DAVID heads towards the bathroom. The light is off, but the notebook still remains.
ZOMBIE DAVID flips through the notebook, suddenly remembering every page. When he gets to the final, unfinished page, he finds the pencil and finishes the sentence. “I just want to find her and tell her I’m sorry.” [VO on “sorry”]
