Ch. 5 Enter Shoji Yoshizaki!
“Ken?! Your cousin, my nephew?! That ken?!” my mom was about to blow up.
“Yes mom, that Ken,” I said as I wiped my eyes. “Calm down, you’re going to crash.”
“How did this happen? Were you there at the time?”
She was getting on my nerves now. It’s not that I don’t care if Ken died, (I really do care though) it’s just that she gets too… out of control with this kind of stuff. “Mom, calm down! I want to get to their house without having someone sue us for crashing into their parked car.”
“I just want to know how this happened, and I saw you there so I thought you would know,” she said.
I sighed. “I got there when I saw an ambulance go down our street and head for his house. I don’t know what happened exactly. No one would tell me anything, but I saw his body when they carried him out of the house.”
“Oh my gosh, how could this have happened?” She wouldn’t shut up!
“Um… mom… could you turn around?” I asked.
“Why?”
“Cause you passed their house,” I replied. She was so off right now.
She flipped around and managed to pull near the curb, in front of their house. I got out first and waited for my mom. She’s slow when it comes to getting in and out of a car.
“Go ahead and let them know we’re here,” she suggested. “I need to get some things from the trunk.”
I walked up the drive way and straight to the door. Before I could knock, my cousin, Shoji Yoshizaki, opened the door. I guess he was heading out. Here’s what he looks like:
He’s 16-years-old, dropped out of school, and use to do a lot of street fighting. (He’s still an awesome fighter today) He’s also my favorite cousin!
“Hey ‘cuz. She’s in the kitchen,” he said, trying to get away from me. He rushed by, but I stopped him.
“I’m not here for her, I came to tell you something bad about Ken,” I replied. He looked puzzled.
“What happened?” He wasn’t in a rush now. I was about to tell him when my mom interrupted me.
“Shoji! Shoji dear, come help me with these things!”
He sighed. “Wait for me in my room.” He went down and helped my mom unload the car.
I slowly went inside, looking everywhere for my Aunt. I don’t really like talking to her because she constantly talks. There was no sign of her so I quietly walked down the hall and into his room.
Inside his room was his sister, Harumi Yoshizaki. She was listening to music from, I’m guessing, his i-pod. This is her:
(Even though she looks shy, she really isn’t) She’s 13-years-old. She doesn’t attend my school; she goes to Shoji’s old Jr. High school.
I wanted to scare her since she wasn’t facing me, but I didn’t. I sat near her and tapped her. She stopped the i-pod and turned to me. “Hi. What are you doing here?” she asked. We hugged before I could reply.
“My mom brought me over with her. I’m waiting for your brother,” I said. I couldn’t tell her about Ken’s death. “It’s a secret though, so I need you to leave for a bit.”
“Um… ok.” She got off the floor, grabbed the i-pod, and left the room. As she left, Shoji came in.
“So, what’s the news on Ken?” he asked.
I stared at him with a sad expression. “He’s dead. Someone killed him.” I couldn’t tell him that Daisuke killed him; otherwise Daisuke would go after him next.
“Oh man… are you serious?” he asked. I nodded.
“Watch, as soon as I found out who killed him, they’re going down!” he said. He and Ken were always hanging out with each other. They were really close.
“You shouldn’t go after this guy. He might be too much for you too handle on your own,” I said, hoping he doesn’t really mean that.
“Then I’ll get friends. No matter what, this guy is going down!” He seemed confident that he’ll succeed. He headed for the door, but I stopped him from leaving.
“I know you’re upset, but you can’t fight this guy. You don’t even know who or where he is,” I said. He pulled away and left the room. I followed close by.
We went passed our mothers and headed to the front door. They didn’t see us go by, which is a good thing. I shut the door and ran to catch up with him.
“Shoji, where are we going?” I asked. He was walking pretty fast, and it was hard to keep up.
“To get a friend,” he replied. I sighed. My family. They always have to do something about everything, especially Shoji.
“Wait, who are you going to get?” I asked.
“A friend of my mind that I spar with all the time. Maybe he can convince his brother to join us.”
I groaned. “I know you’re getting your friend, but which friend are you talking about?”
He grinned. “Hidekazu, and possibly Yoshida as well.”
I swallowed hard. “Not the Honma brothers.”
He nodded. “That’s exactly who.”
