• Nobody thought anything wrong could go wrong during the New Years party at the Grand Hotel. Oh how wrong they were.

I worked hard to keep my small apartment as one of the maids at the Grand Hotel. I was one of the youngest of the work force. Most of the women that worked with me were old and didn't speak much english, so I out of the circle; or at least that's what I called it. It was hard work, but I did my best in everthing I could possible do. I never thought things would ever get complicated with my kind of job. Again, I was so wrong.

I was rushing towards a room that needed tending to when a snoby irritating voice rang out to me. "Sarah, Oh Sarah!" I turned makeing sure I wasn't snarling in the voices direction. I smiled, "Yes, Miss Smith?" Miss Smith, also known as the boss' 'play toy' sneered at me saying, "Do you have a minute?"

"Oh of course, Miss Smith." I walked over to her even though I knew I need to clean the room. I reached the counter waiting for her either to yell at me or tell about her 'love' life. She narrowed her eyes in a snoby way, "The hotel is having a New Years party, and we need every person working that night. I hope you didn't make plans." Shoot, I did make plans that day. I was going to hang with some friends, but still. Oh well, I smiled and shook my head, "Nope, I'm free that night. I'll be in don't worry." Miss Smith giggled, which sounded like nails on a board, "I thought so."

She waved me off, so I could tend to my work. I was glad to leave her pressence. I think she was the only person that really got to me, and she knew that she got under my skin. But, I wouldn't want her to truly know that she does. I shook my head and went to the room to clean.

    ...

Loud music pounded through the hotel. People chatted, danced, drank, or went into their rooms to... You know. I glanced around the room watching the rich people having their fun. I was slightly annoyed that I had to spend my New Years with these kind of people. I sighed deeply and went towards one of the elevators. Even though this elevator was down a long dark hallway, and that it was at the very end of it. I was too tired to really be scared at all. I pushed the button for the elevator and waited.

As I waited, there came some noises from a room behind me. I looked back and the sound was of cats. I knew that animals weren't alowd in the hotel, but I didn't feel like dealing with people at that moment. I turned back as the elevator doors opened. I was about to walk in as a man ran up yelling, "Hold the door!" I held it as he got to me. He panted trying to catch his breath. I stared at him, wondering if the man was ok. His clothes seemed amess and his hair was all over the place. He looked up at me smileing saying, "Thanks."

To be honest he was pretty cute with his red hair spilling into his face. And how he's green eyes dazzled beneath his hair. I wouldn't care that he looked amess; hands down I would take him. The man kept smiling up at me, but it quickly turned to a frown and a cat meowed from the room behind us. The man straightened up staring at the door with a look of fear on his face. I looked at him asking, "Are you ok, sir?" He didn't move, but relpied, "I don't like cats..." He quickly jumped onto the elevator and pushed the button to close the doors. I stood there in a weird confused ura. A man afraid of cats; that was something different.

I sighed, even though I didn't mind waiting for the elevator to come back down. I shifted my weight to my right leg and looked up the wall. As my eyes carried up onward, they widened. Something wet was dripping down the walls. I looked further up, and quickly covered my mouth with my hand. A bloody corpse hung on the ceiling.
