• -------------------------------------------Chapter 2-----Halloween---

The Conner’s were the popular kids in school. The family consisted of three gorgeous boys, Kevin , Jordan, and James. Kevin and Jordan were still going to our high school, all the girls were in love with them. They were the kind of guys you dreamt about dating, the tall dark and handsome guys with light eyes. They were also what you call the perfect students. They never got detention, they passed their tests with A’s, rarely with a B, and they did all their homework. To me they were just like any other person, they didn’t fascinate me much as they did to the other girls in school, even the teachers. Kevin and Jordan were my age, eighteen, and both seniors. Their brother James was the oldest. He’s nineteen years old and graduated high school last year. After graduation, no one has seen him since. I don’t even remember what he looks like, like I said they didn’t really fascinate me. Anyway, The Conner’s threw a Halloween party every year, it was always the talk of the school. Everyone from school was always invited. This is going to be the first time I attended one of their parties. There were always ridiculous rumors about the family. Some people think they are hiding something from them, like a big secret. The kids who live around their house say they hear weird noises at night, always close to their house. I’ve never seen their house up close before; I never had the want to stalk them like a lot of the other girls in school did, but from what rumors say, their house is huge and spooky.

Their house wasn’t too far away from Tory’s. It took us seven minutes to get to the corner of their block. A sign that said DEAD END STREET in big bright reflective letters greeted us as we turned to drive down the street. We saw the street packed with cars, it looked like as if a concert was being held there. There was no parking at all in front of their house, so we parked half way up the street and walked down to their house. When we reached the end of the block there was a big black gate - a mailbox stood there - tied with vines at the side of the entrance. A sign swung under the mailbox that said, The Conner Family.
“I guess this is the house,” I said still looking at the mailbox sign.
“Wow, its big.” Tory looked straight ahead towards the gray big lit house and I followed her stare.
Their whole property was gated. They didn’t live in a regular old house, they lived in what looked like a Mansion. It had a creepy vibe to it, and it was surrounded by woods on both sides. Their house was at the end of the block, which was the dead end. It looked like one of those Mansions that sat up on a Hill, and everyone dared each other to run up and knock on the door and run away, except this house was not on a hill. Two iron gate doors were wide opened to a lit-up pathway that lead to their front door. Tory and I took a deep breath and started walking on the path. The more we walked deeper in towards the house, it didn’t look as scary as it had before. It was actually pretty nice. Light lit the pathway as we passed lovely water fountains and what seemed to be a garden on both sides on the path, it was too dark to tell. I was a bit confused as I looked around my surroundings. I thought on Halloween you were supposed to decorate with cobwebs and skulls? I didn’t see any of that here. I kept on walking without paying any attention to what was in front of me. All of a sudden I bumped into something hard. I fell back , tripping over my feet, tumbling to the floor. I finally got up on my two feet and looked at what I bumped into. I then realized we met our destination, we were now standing in front of two giant wooden doors. Behind the doors you could hear muffled music playing and people laughing and chatting .
“I guess we’re here.” I said as I dusted myself off.
    “Yup! I’m ready to party!”
Well Tory was, I wasn’t in the mood anymore and I just wanted to go home. Tory rang the door bell. The bell sounded like a chant that echoed throughout the house. We stood there in front of the doors for 5 minutes and nobody answered.
“Oh well, lets go back home.” I said as I quickly turned around towards the direction we just came from.
“ No, wait.” Tory put her hand on the doorknob.
“Its probably locked.“ I stood there hoping what I just said was true.
Luck was not on my side tonight; the knob turned and the door creaked as it swung open. There were tons of people everywhere dressed up in silly costumes dancing in front of the entrance.
“Come on let’s go party!” Before I knew it Tory ran in and disappeared into the crowd.
I had no choice but to fallow her, I couldn’t leave her alone. I let out a big sigh and went inside. I shut the heavy door behind me and pushed my way through the crowd. I felt kind of ridiculous being the only one here not dressed up in a costume. I found a bench to sit on the right side of the room where the snacks and beverages were. As I squeezed my way through, someone stepped on my foot.
“Ouch!” I screamed, but of course no one heard me with the music blasting loud, so I then hurried my way to the bench limping. I sat down and watched everyone dance. Everyone here knew each other and I felt out of place. As I sat there I realized how big this place really was. A giant chandelier hung in the center of the room and there were two large grand spiral staircases that sat on both sides of the room that met each other on the second floor. I pause from looking around the room when I spotted a attractive tall and dark haired guy walking down the steps. A girl suddenly bumped into my shoulder and spilled her drink on me.
“I’m so sorry.” The girl quickly got napkins and started dabbing my shirt.
“Its okay, I got it.” I rolled my eyes and took the napkins out of her hands and continued were she left off.
The floor was now sticky and my feet stuck to the floor.
“Ugh, what a night I’m having.” I mumbled to myself.

I sat there bored out of my mind staring at the floor and making sticky noises with my feet.
“Hello,” a husky voice came from the left side of me and I pause from moving my feet. I paid no attention to who it was who said hello and I just kept my head down looking at the floor in font of me.
“You don’t look like your having a very great time.” Two shiny black boots planted themselves in front of me. I slowly moved my eyes up towards his face, which was very handsome and a big smile was waiting for me .
“Hi.” he said again hoping this time I replied back. It took me almost a minute to realize that I was still looking at his face and my cheeks turned slightly red and I looked away.
“Uh…hi.” I managed to reply back, trying hard not to make any eye contact. We stood there without saying any other word. He then broke the silence by clearing is throat.
“Do you mind if I sit next to you,” he asked politely. I rolled my eyes and made some room next to me.
    “So…what’s your name?” he asked.
“Cassie.” I replied. He was probably waiting for me to ask him what his name was, but I wasn’t interested to ask.
“Well its nice to met you Cassie.” He smiled and held out his hand for me to shake. I hesitated for a second and tried not to meet his eyes, but I failed and unwillingly shook his hand. His eyes were addicting to look at, like looking into two silver glowing moons.
“So why aren’t you dressed; you know this is a costume party.”
“Well I don’t see you wearing any costume .” I slapped back.
“I am , you just don’t know what I’m supposed to be.”
“So what are you supposed to be?”
“Its for me to know and for you to find out.” A grin showed across his face and winked at me.
I looked away from him and now focused at the dancing crowd that was now slow dancing to a slow love song. I tried ignoring the gorgeous guy next to me, but it was hard to do just that.
“Okay, why are you still sitting next to me?” I asked rudely, looking dead in his face.
“Because, there is nowhere else to sit.” I looked around and I found two other benches with room to sit on.
“Oh, really?” I motioned my hand in the directions of the two empty benches.
“Okay, want to know the truth? I saw you sitting here alone, bored out of your mind and I thought why not talk to you and make a new friend.”
Now I felt bad for being so rude to him.
    “I’m s-.”
“Would you like to have this dance with me?” he asked, cutting off my apology. It took me a while to register what he just asked me. He sat there looking at me waiting for an answer.
“Um…I…I guess.” I shrugged as I choked out the words. I never was asked by a guy to dance before and what made it worse was that he was very good-looking. He held out his hand waiting for me to accept. I took his hand and he lead me to the dance floor. My heart was now racing from nervousness, hoping nobody would notice. We positioned ourselves face to face and he put his hand around my waist, I felt my body go stiff.
“Relax. Haven’t you ever danced with a guy before.” he snickered.
If he only knew ,I thought to myself.
I put my hands on his shoulder, and tried to loosen up .
I think this how you do this. I made sure I left some space between us .
We started to sway to the flow of the music and I tried not to look at his face. As the song kept on going I started to feel more comfortable and got closer to him filling in the gap between us.
    “That’s better.” He smiled.
“Don’t get too happy.” I rolled my eyes.
The song finished and I started walking back to my chair until he caught my arm.
“Don’t tell me your going back to sit down.”
“Uh...that’s what I was planning on doing.” I tried yanking my arm out of his grip, but failed.
“Ouch,… your hurting me.” I said with attitude. He looked at me with embarrassment in his eyes and quickly let go.
“Lets go outside to get some air.” He said . He turned around and started his way up the nearest staircase. I looked around to see if I could see were Tory was ,but still she was no where to be seen.
I looked up on the top of the staircase and there he was waiting for me. I went up the steps and stopped right at the last step.
“Took you long enough.” He said with a grin across his face and he held out his arm for me to grab. I hesitated. I was unsure to take hold of his arm. This felt very weird to me. I never had someone be so polite and nice to me before. For the first time I didn’t feel invisible.. I put my arm around his and he led me through two opened French doors that led us onto a balcony.
It was beautifully lit. It looked like one of those romantic scenes out of a movie. I let go of his arm and walked over to edge of the balcony. I looked out into the night sky and you can see the millions of stars twinkling bright and clear. I felt him stand behind me and stare at the back of my head. I turned around and met his face.
“Why are you staring at me? “ I asked. I was actually starting to get freaked out.
He just stood there and smiled at me.
“Uh, I think I should go.” I started my way towards the doors, but then I tripped over my own feet. He quickly caught me before I fell to the floor. He held both of my arms and stood me up on my two feet. I looked up at him and met his eyes. His eyes were brightly glowing just like the stars in the night sky, they were too beautiful to look away. He looked deep into my eyes and I felt as if I was being pulled into his soul. My eyes stuck to his like a magnet. I couldn’t move my eyes away from his, I couldn’t move or breathe. I felt paralyzed. All of a sudden everything turned black and I couldn’t see. Visions of different things started racing in my mind like a movie in fast-forward and then stopped. I was now looking at room, it looked like something out of a horror movie. The room was lit by a lonely candle on a nightstand next to a door, everything looked so dark and gloomy.
My eyes were now adjusted back to those striking eyes and I gasped for air. I was now back in reality. I felt my knees go weak , and he caught me before I fell to the ground again and then I blacked out.
