Yes, the narrator was Death. At one part of the story, he pretends to be the girl's brother, whom died.

This is an amazing piece of writing...the only thing is, and I'm sure it was written right in front of my face, but who is the narrator? The brother? For a while I was thinking it was death. But it was really, very, very good writing. I loved it.
